Space Event at Arctic Frontiers
Information about the event
The Norwegian Space Agency, in partnership with the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, is hosting a side event on space policy in the Arctic during the Arctic Frontiers conference in Tromsø on the 28th of January.
The title of the seminar is “Space for a Better and Safer Life in the Arctic”. The need for critical space infrastructure is increasing with the ongoing transition in the Arctic, large economic and military interest and with the climate change that continues to reshape the Arctic landscape.
The side event will focus on how space technology, satellite launch capacities, satellite communication and other satellite services empower Arctic industries, governments, and communities to shape a better and safer future. We will discuss how space-based services, provide tools to monitor, protect and manage Arctic resources and environment, benefiting local communities and industries and how Norwegian space initiatives will contribute to European security and EU's policy for the Arctic region.
Norway’s new satellite launch capabilities are enabling access to space, supporting innovation and development of the region. Satellite-based data and communication help governments and industries to make better decisions, manage resources and improve quality of life. The Norwegian Arctic Satellite Broadband Mission (ASBM) provides for the first time broadband and efficient connectivity in the polar region and is a great example of a civil military collaboration.
