WideNorth has been working on advanced communication technology since 2017, with the support of the European Space Agency's (ESA) ARTES program. This support has subsequently resulted in additional funding from ESA to advance the technology into products for a niche and specialized market.

They have also received funding from the Norwegian Space Agency for further developments.

WideNorth develops high technology for wireless communication and signal processing, including modems and instruments for signal processing. These are used in satellites and ground stations for satellites, among other applications

One of WideNorth's products is a new generation software-defined radio. It can function as a satellite modem for data transfer to and from satellites, boasting a speed that is five times greater than existing technology. This capability facilitates the transmission of significantly larger volumes of data compared to previous technology.

The Norwegian high-tech firm originated with engineers who worked at Nera Satcom. WideNorth markets its products, including to the emerging commercial space sector referred to as NewSpace. Additionally, WideNorth engages in research and development
