NEO has received funding in 2023 to advance technology for detecting methane emissions on Earth. This initiative builds upon their ongoing project initiated in 2022, which now includes an emphasis on instrument design and detection algorithms.In 2019, NEO applied for funding and received approval, commencing the project in 2020. Thanks to this funding, NEO has been able to continue their work on satellite instruments. In 2023, NEO's approved projects involve exploring the simplification of a hyperspectral camera intended for integration into a new satellite developed by the European Space Agency (ESA).This satellite, tentatively named the ESA In Orbit Demonstrator, will showcase various innovative technologies while in orbit.
